Delhi Metro authorities will introduce electric feeder buses for the first time in the national capital on a trial basis starting Thursday, August 12, under which 25 low floor e-buses, which are 24-seaters, will operate from two routes. Only Delhi Metro passengers having a valid Delhi Metro smart card a metro DTC smart card will be permitted to travel in the e-buses, according to a statement shared by Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) on Tuesday.
Passengers can use the smart cards to pay for cashless travel since the buses are fully contactless and conductor less – a system that assumes relevance amid the COVID-19 pandemic. The entry and exit in the buses for passengers will be through turnstiles by using the Delhi Metro smart card. No cash payment will be allowed in the feeder buses and services will be available only for Delhi Metro commuters.
For all the feeder buses starting services from the Delhi Metro stations, the entry of the passengers will be allowed only from the stations and the bus will stop only at the designated stops for dropping the passengers. Entry of commuters will not be allowed at other stoppages along the route.
Similarly, for those feeder buses going to the Delhi Metro stations, entry of passengers will be allowed from all the stoppages along the route, but the exit will be allowed only at the Delhi Metro stations. Passengers will be allowed to enter from the front gate and exit from the rear gate of the feeder bus, according to DMRC.
